Newton Falls To Tri-County North In Low-Scoring Affair
Both teams were strong on the mound on Thursday, but Tri-County North was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Newton on Thursday. Ryan Mollette started the game for Newton and recorded 15 outs.
Newton lost despite out-hitting Tri-County North seven to five.
Newton got things moving in the second inning, when Caden Swietzer laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
Tri-County North knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning, when an error scored one run for Tri-County North.
Tri-County North pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Mollette’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for Tri-County North.
Collin Whipp pitched Tri-County North to victory. He allowed six hits and one run over four and a third innings, striking out three. Phillip Lockwood threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lockwood recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Tri-County North.
Mollette took the loss for Newton. He lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking one.
Newton racked up seven hits on the day. Ross Ferrell and Alex Koon all managed multiple hits for Newton. Koon and Ferrell all had two hits to lead Newton.
Chayse Eby led Tri-County North with two hits in three at bats.
